We Made It! Andrzej Bargiel Skis Down Mount Everest with Comarch as Official Sponsor

Andrzej Bargiel, a leading Polish ski mountaineer, has accomplished a feat once thought impossible. He became the first person in the world to reach the summit of Mount Everest (8,849 m / 29,032 ft) and ski down to base camp (5,364 m / 17,598 ft) without the use of supplemental oxygen. This extraordinary performance marks a milestone in the history of ski mountaineering.
The summit push began from Camp IV and lasted an exhausting 16 hours in the “death zone” above 8,000 meters. Bargiel spent only a few minutes at the top before clicking into his skis and starting the historic descent. In remarkable style, he navigated the Khumbu Icefall without ropes or fixed lines, demonstrating skill, precision, and endurance.
During the press conference on September 26 in Warsaw, Andrzej Bargiel emphasized that the descent from the summit was difficult. However, the mountaineer always acts responsibly, paying attention to every detail and consciously assessing the risks. He takes on challenges only under favorable conditions, combining courage and initiative with the ability to retreat when danger arises:
- I managed to descend from the summit, although it was not easy – we had to push through masses of snow and spend many hours at altitudes above 8,000 meters. In total, it was probably over 15 hours of effort, which certainly took a toll on my health, especially physically. (...) I try to do this as best as I can and prepare as thoroughly as possible, but ultimately I treat it as a passion. I believe I am aware of the limits in this kind of activity. When I feel that the conditions are favorable – there is room to act, the weather is good, and everything aligns – I try to take advantage of that opportunity. But at the same time, I have no problem stepping back if I see that the situation is truly dangerous.
Comarch is proud to have been the Official Sponsor of the EVEREST SKI CHALLENGE, part of the HIC SUNT LEONES project.
Bargiel had previously pushed the boundaries of the impossible, skiing down four of Karakoram’s eight-thousanders: Broad Peak, K2, Gasherbrum I, and II. His latest success demonstrates that courage, teamwork, and determination are the keys to realizing the greatest dreams.
- We strongly believed, and continue to believe, in Andrzej, whom we support every step of the way. The Comarch team has been eagerly awaiting such wonderful news from the highest peak on Earth. We are guided by similar values in our everyday work, which makes this collaboration especially meaningful for us. Many people working at Comarch are active in sports, and we also hike in the mountains together – so we are even happier and prouder of this extraordinary success, said Comarch CEO Jarosław Mikos, minutes after receiving the news from Andrzej Bargiel’s team.
Congratulations to Andrzej and his entire team on this historic achievement! Their perseverance fills us with pride and serves as an inspiration to all who strive for the highest peaks – in sports and beyond.
